Since 2018, buyers of new cars are obliged to secure an NTSA Third Licence Inspection Sticker. The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is mandated to inspect and ensure that all motorists adhere to the guidelines on acquiring new vehicles.
The Third Identifier Law was passed to regulate road offences resulting from motor vehicles used in criminal activities. All citizens are, therefore, urged to comply with the regulations while acquiring a new car.
Car owners in Kenya are required to pay Ksh. 700 for a third licence plate. The warrant is valid for 10 years and is renewable at the exact cost of acquiring it. In case of damage or an accident before the duration lapses, motorists are obliged to pay Ksh. 700 for a replacement.

The NTSA Third Party sticker contains discrete and concealed features. However, traffic police can scan the actual details of the inspection sticker using an electronic gadget at their various checkpoints. Any attempt to adjust the sticker from the vehicle's windscreen will result in permanent damage.
As mentioned earlier, security is one of the primary reasons for the NTSA Third Licence Inspection Sticker application. Upon registration, the details can be used to detect stolen cars. This record also gives data to the government regarding the country’s traffic volume.

With the application process done virtually, the NTSA Third Licence Inspection Sticker is acquired easily and fast. The permit reduces fraud cases as well as detecting high speeding vehicles at a distance of 10 meters. It is henceforth mandatory for Private and PSV car owners to have the licence.
