Beautification of the newly constructed Nairobi Expressway is in high gear, ahead of its opening by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The road, which has transformed the city’s landscape, was an eyesore to many commuters because of the towering concrete columns supporting it.
Julia Ondeyo, the KenHa deputy director, said that the pillars supporting the moistly raised road would be adorned with flowers and other greenery.

Photos doing rounds on social media depicted the pillars lined with vegetation, and the process is expected to be completed in March.
Ondeyo, an engineer, admitted that some of the roads in Kenya do not create a peaceful environment for people to travel through hence, the decision to introduce plants.
The road’s construction saw the cutting down of trees, which KEnHa plans on replacing.
Ondeyo explained that the supporting structure containing pockets for plants is first attached to the column.

The plants, contained in a porous material, are placed inside the pockets.
In December, President Uhuru expressed his delight with the progress of the expressway and promised its completion by March 2022.
Uhuru lauded the Chinese contractors for their speed and efficiency.
He challenged those criticising Kenya's relationship with China to walk across the country to see the benefits Kenya has reaped from the cooperation.
