New car registrations increased by 12.8% in December 2022 in the EU, while the passenger car market contracted by 4.6% during the full year, according to a report by The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.
For December, only two of the EU’s four major markets reported growth – Germany posted a double digit increase of 38.1% and Italy posted an increase of 21.0%.
Spain posted a decline of 14.1% in terms of new car registrations, and France of 0.1%, the report said.
The EU passenger car market shrank in 2022, mainly because of the impact of component shortages in H1.
Among the region’s four main markets, only Germany reported growth, of 1.1%, during the full year.
