“I am the most important person for all of you,” Union Minister Nitin Gadkari told the car industry association SIAM on Monday, adding that roads built by his ministry will help the sector the most, news agency PTI reported.
Gadkari stated at an event hosted by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) that his ministry is constructing 27 greenfield express motorways and has received 260 projects for ropeways and funicular train systems.
“Directly or indirectly, I am the most important person for all of you because I am going to develop this road sector and the only people who are going to benefit is the automobile sector. Because it is going to increase demand,” Gadkari was quoted by PTI in its report.
According to the minister of road transport and highways, his ministry is building roads from Delhi to Mumbai, Delhi to Dehradun, Delhi to Haridwar, Delhi to Katra, Delhi to Chandigarh, and Chennai to Bengaluru, among other places.
Nitin Gadkari also stated that the government has to encourage flex-fuel cars and e-mobility to deal with the challenges caused by large changes in crude oil prices on the international market.
Speaking at a SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures) event, Gadkari also stated that the aviation sector is experiencing difficulties due to the high cost of aviation fuel.
“Every year, (wide) fluctuations in crude oil prices are creating lots of problems…We need to march towards adoption of 100 per cent flex fuel vehicles,” he said.
Flex-fuel Compatible vehicles may operate on many types of gasoline as well as a blend. Typically, a gasoline-ethanol or methanol combination is employed.
The road transport and roads minister stated that the usage of fossil fuels accounts for 40% of pollution in India.
Noting the need of developing technologies to transform waste to money, he stated, “we are encouraging many industries to start producing ethanol.”
The minister also praised the car industry for its contribution to job creation in India.
“The automobile sector employs over 4 crore people in India. It also pays maximum GST to the government,” he said.
Gadkari also stated that there is significant potential for vehicle component exports.
According to Gadkari, the most important pillars of Indian society are ethics, economy, ecology, and environment.
“Regarding ecology and environment, the whole world is marching towards carbon neutrality,” he said.
The minister stated that sugar firms that have played a major role in the nation’s current ethanol achievements will gain comparable economic rewards from working together to achieve sustainability.
