Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has dismissed reports the multi-billion Nairobi Expressway has been opened to motorists.
Reports emerged on social media that the toll highway, which runs from Mlolongo township to the James Gichuru inter-change on Waiyaki Way, has been opened and test runs commenced.
Some motorists went ahead to share videos cruising on the KSh 72 billion 27.1 kilometres road, necessitating the government to respond.
Taking to Twitter on Monday, March 21, KeNHA said the expressway was almost done but yet to be officially opened to traffic.

The autonomous road agency said, before the eventual opening of the road to the public, there will be guided trials to test the operations of the system that has been installed.
In December 2021, President Uhuru expressed his delight with the progress of the expressway and promised its completion by March this year.
In other news, the beautification of the expressway is in high gear, ahead of its opening.

The road, which has transformed the city’s landscape, was an eyesore to many commuters because of the towering concrete columns supporting it.
Julia Ondeyo, the KeNHA deputy director, said that the pillars supporting the moistly raised road would be adorned with flowers and other greenery.
Photos doing rounds on social media depicted the pillars lined with vegetation, and the process is expected to be completed in March.
Ondeyo, an engineer, explained that the supporting structure containing pockets for plants is first attached to the column.
The plants, contained in a porous material, are placed inside the pockets.
