Shipyards under China Merchants Heavy Industry are being roped in to build the new car-carriers
Shanghai-listed China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) is making a big push on the car-carrier sector with order for a series of 9,000-ceu pure car/truck carrier (PCTC) newbuildings.
In a regulatory filing, the state-owned shipping company said it has inked a letter of intent for up to six ultra-large methanol dual-fuel car carrier newbuildings at shipyards under China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI).
“In order to seize market opportunities to further expand the international car carrier business and to assist the transportation of Chinese automobiles, the company is actively promoting the development of low-carbon and environmentally friendly green ships,” said CMES.
