• To ease traffic flow in various sections along the main Mombasa Road (A8), a number of sections of the road have already been reconstructed and open to use by motorists.
The Kenya National Highway Authority will be opening two road sections to ease traffic flow as the construction of the Expressway is still ongoing.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Kenha said on December 15, the closed section on Haile Selassie-University Way roundabout and the section at Gateway Mall will be opened to ease the current traffic situation.
Kenha further stated that due to the ongoing rains, various sections of the road have experienced flooding and civil and drainage works have been prioritized in the affected sections.
To ease traffic flow in various sections along the main Mombasa Road (A8), a number of sections of the road have already been reconstructed and open to use by motorists.
These include Gateway Mall-Hilton Garden Inn, Sameer Park-Southern Bypass, David Osieli Road- Aga Khan School and Museum Hill underpass which has been opened to ease traffic flow even as work is still ongoing.
The sections of the Expressway where traffic congestion could still be experienced is the U-Turn from Allpack service road where the access from the service lane to Mombasa Road has been blocked to reduce congestion on the main carriageway.
Motorists on the service road may take a U-turn at Mlolongo.
Congestion will also be experienced at the Gateway Mall due to the ongoing excavation and protection of an oil pipeline that crosses under the expressway on the A8 road.
At the GM area, there is a temporary diversion to pave way for the ongoing works.
At Capital Centre, there is an ongoing rehabilitation of the A8 Road (Mombasa bound lane) necessitating traffic to be diverted to the town bound lane.
At the Bunyala round about -University way construction is still ongoing in this area.
Construction of the elevated section of the road stands at 93% completion while construction of the operation and monitoring centre stands at 98%.
Kenha has urged motorists to continue exercising caution and road courtesy as that will help manage traffic better.
