NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 13 – Tembea Tujenge Kenya brand ambassador, Maina Kageni has appealed to Kenyans to embrace domestic tourism stating that it is the main driving force of the travel and tourism sector.
Speaking on Friday, Kageni said that the tourism sector largely depends on domestic tourists noting that they are using the Tembea Tujenge Kenya initiative to open up new tourism destinations in the country.
Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nakuru, and Mombasa have been listed as the supportive counties that have embraced the initiative.
Tembea Tujenge Kenya CEO, Andrew Kanyuto said  that so far they have managed to visit 27 counties and they will cover the remaining 20 counties in 2023.
On January 27 they will visit Nyeri  county. Kenyans have been invited so as to take domestic tourism a notch higher by partaking the friendly and value driven packages offered  to them.
Further, Kanyuto said that the Tembea Tujenge Kenya will now spread its section to the East African region after ascending its growth in domestic tourism the last two years.
The countries being targeted includes; Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
‘’We have extended the same concept in the region where we are looking at signing East Africa as a block,’’ Kanyuto said.
According to Kanyut0, the Tembea Tujenge Kenya initiative was able to achieve 67,000 bed capacity last year that enabled them sell jobs in the hospitality industry.

Kanyutu has also called upon the private sector to support the initiative, which has received a boost from Safaricom, Isuzu East Africa, Tourism Fund, Sarova Hotels, Vivo energy, Presidential Delivery Unit among others.
The Tembea Tujenge Kenya is an initiative aimed at promoting Domestic Tourism to impact counties economic growth within the counties.
