The points will qualify business owners for weekly draws where they could win one of 128 tuk-tuks, monthly draws where they could win one of 16 Isuzu DMAX pickups, or the grand draw where they stand to win one of 8 Fuso Canters
Telco Safaricom has announced the start of a promotion that will see business owners who use the company’s Lipa Na M-PESA and Pochi La Biashara service receive many awards.
According to the carrier, more than 400K businesses use Lipa Na M-PESA services to accept payments.
This is up from 170K businesses that were recorded back in March 2020.
In the same breath, more than 2 million small businesses have also picked the Pochi La Biashara service.
Pochi La Biashara was launched in October 2020, and it allows small businesses to separate business payments from their personal M-PESA wallets.
The development is being pushed by Safaricom, which is always attempting to find new ways to expand the offerings of its M-PESA service.
Also, at the time of launch, the country was battling the pandemic. The CBK had instructed people to pay for products and services using cashless means as a way to curb the spread of the virus.
The awards
The promotion, which runs for the next eight weeks, will see businesses using the said services receive 1 point for every KES 50 transacted, and above.
The points will qualify business owners for weekly draws where they could win one of 128 tuk-tuks, monthly draws where they could win one of 16 Isuzu DMAX pickups, or the grand draw where they stand to win one of 8 Fuso Canters.
Furthermore, the promotion will run across 8 regions including Nairobi, Coast, North Eastern, Eastern, Rift, Western, Nyanza and Mt. Kenya. Each of the regions will award 2 tuk-tuks every week, 1 pickup every 4 weeks, and 1 truck at the grand finale.
Small businesses using Pochi La Biashara can also redeem their points for cash at KES 1 per point. Also, all business owners will be rewarded with up to 6 minutes of talk time per day for the first three qualifying transactions.
Medium-sized firms and small businesses form the backbone of Kenya’s economy accounting for a third of economic output and employing a majority of Kenyans. In recognition, we are celebrating and rewarding all business owners accepting payments on Lipa Na M-PESA and Pochi La Biashara through our Biashara ni Lipa Na M-PESA Promotion. – Peter Ndegwa, CEO – Safaricom.
