NAIROBI, Kenya Sep 3 – Travelers planning to use the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway have been advised to use diversions created to curb the traffic that caused a 10-hour gridlock, forcing motorists to spend over 10 hours on the road.
The Kenya National Highways Authority has urged motorists to use the Flyover-Njabini-Ol-Kalou-Lanet and Naivasha-Ol-Kalou-Lanet routes.
Trucks drivers have been advised to delay their travels until the situation eases at Gilgil Weighbridge.
KeNHA had earlier issued an advisory stating that a section of the Northern Corridor, between Naivasha and Nakuru was experiencing congestion due to a traffic incident near the rail over road bridge between Gilgil turn-off and the weighbridge.
Police were deployed to man the situation and restore normalcy.
The agency stated that it was working around the clock to address the matter.
Some of the road users caught in the traffic said they were forced to spend the night in the jam and that by this morning, there was no movement.
KeNHA cautioned motorists from overlapping and further compounding the situation and also advised others to avoid the area until the matter is resolved.
The road was expected to be busy as the majority of Kenyans traveling to Rift Valley, Western, and Nyanza regions use the highway.
