Kenyan long-distance runner Eliud Kipchoge boasts of four out of five fastest marathons in history.
The 38-year-old is regarded as the greatest marathoner of all time, having won 15 out of 17 marathons he has competed in.
His two losses came in the 2013 Berlin Marathon when he came second behind Wilson Kipsang, who broke the world record, and in 2020, he took position eight in the London Marathon.

The humble athlete was born on November 5, 1984, in Kapsisiywa, Nandi county. He was raised by a single mother and only learned about his father from dusty old photographs.

As a teenager, he recalled walking and cycling from Kapsisiywa to Kapsabet town to sell milk at the local market.
He used to run a distance of six kilometres to school daily, and that's how his journey to becoming a professional athlete began.
Kipchoge started running as a teenager under the guidance of his long-term coach Patrick Sang.
At the Word Cross Country championships in 2003, he set a world junior record over 5000 m on the track.

During the same year, aged 18 at the World Championships, he made headlines after defeating track icons Hicham El Guerrouj and Kenenisa Bekele to win 5000m gold with a championship record.

Since then, he never looked back, winning 5000m bronze and silver medals at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games.
The smart athlete switched to a marathon after he failed to qualify for the 2012 Olympics. This proved to be a game changer as he has enjoyed more success.
His marathon debut was in Hamburg, Germany, in 2013, where besides claiming victory, he set a course record.
The decorated athlete has clinched the London and Berlin Marathons four times each.

According to The Express, the 38-year-old took home £38,000 for winning the 2018 Berlin Marathon. He received a whopping £534,000 for setting a new world record.
His 2018 and 2019 London Marathons victories made him pocket £39,000 and £42,500.

Besides his earnings from races, he takes home millions in sponsorship deals with INEOS, Nike, Maurten, NN Group and Isuzu.
On Saturday, October 12, 2019, Kipchoge made history as the first man to run 42km under two hours in the INEOS 1:59 Challenge sponsored by British billionaire James Ratcliff.
He crossed the finishing line after 01:59:40 hours, proving no human is limited.
Kipchoge broke his own world record in the 2022 Berlin Marathon on Sunday, September 25.
He pocketed over KSh 13 million in bonuses for his victory in two hours, one minute and nine seconds.

He earned $22,600 (KSh 2.75 million) for the victory at his fourth Berlin Marathon, breaking the 2018 record.
Kipchoge received a brand new Isuzu D-Max single cab pick-up valued at KSh 4.1 million after his impressive victory in the INEOS 1:59 challenge.
As the Isuzu D-Max brand ambassador, he was gifted with a similar car in 2018 after his Berlin Marathon heroics.
The Japanese car manufacturer Isuzu has since launched the Eliud 1:59 limited edition in honour of the world marathon record holder. Isuzu will only construct 159 units.
Despite his immense wealth, Kipchoge lives a humble life in his Kapsisiywa home. His house is located along the Baraton-Kaiboi road in rural Nandi.
On September 1, 2021, he shared a photo at his tea farm. The farm, whose size is several acres, extended behind Kichoge into a grove of trees.

With such impressive net worth, Kipchoge can afford to live in a luxurious mansion.
Together with his wife, Grace Sugut and three children, they reside in a multi-million house in Elgon View Estate in Eldoret, one of the high-end places in the town.
The house is located 30km away from the training camp where he spends most of his time.
On September 9, 2021, Kipchoge launched the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation.
Through the foundation, he hopes to give all children in the world access to knowledge and education.

Former president Uhuru Kenyatta authorised the construction of a KSh 100 million library in honour of Kipchoge.

The library is located at Kapsisiywa Primary School, where he studied. The athlete unveiled the library on August 8.
