The gridlock started at 7pm on Friday, September 2, leaving hundreds of motorists stranded.
Some passengers who boarded matatus along the highway opted to alight and walk to their destinations.
In other news, a video showing a traffic officer energetically directing traffic went viral.
The clip, shared by the National Police Service, depicted Corporal Denis Ouko standing by the side of the road as he urged motorists to speed off.
He reinforced his message by lifting his leg to imitate a driver stepping on the gas. The traffic officer then waved his arms animatedly before making the speeding gesture with his foot.

Many Kenyans online lauded Ouko's passion for the work, and a viral TikToker @litboy tracked down the cop and awarded him.
