Isuzu East Africa has partnered with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to develop video content from the Highway Code for the benefit of road users.
The production of the videos for use on various digital platforms is aimed at ensuring that valuable road safety educational materials are easily accessible to the public.
The Highway Code, currently used for training new learners on road safety, traffic signs, rules and road discipline, has been packaged into short videos that will be made available to driving schools and digital platforms for public use.
An MOU had been signed in 2021 between Isuzu and NTSA and is part of the vehicle assembler’s social investment in the transport sector in which Isuzu East Africa is the leading local assembler of commercial vehicles.
Speaking during the release of the Isuzu-NTSA Road Safety Education videos, Isuzu East Africa Managing Director Rita Kavashe highlighted the growing lack of adherence to road signs, lack of lane discipline and common courtesy on our roads.
“It is in our interest as Isuzu East Africa to support all efforts to ensure road users are safe and that those entrusted with transporting passengers do so safely and courteously,” she said.
Rita noted that human-related factors including speeding, careless overtaking, overloading, and driver fatigue contribute to a majority of crashes on Kenyan roads.
Isuzu East Africa in conjunction with NTSA has produced 10 videos on the Highway code.
This content is expected to reach a wider audience and create an easily accessible reference for the public in a bid to cause behaviour change among road users.
National Transport Authority (NTSA) Director General George Njao lauded the move by Isuzu East Africa, saying that digitization of the road safety information would ensure maximum online reach for all road users.
He noted that road crashes are preventable if motorists adhere to traffic rules and exercised patience.
