NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 19 – Vehicle Assembler Isuzu East Africa has introduced new assembly lines constructed at a cost Sh1 billion that will increase the company’s capacity to locally assemble vehicles.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Isuzu EA Managing Director, Rita Kavashe, indicated that the move was a demonstration of Isuzu EA’s manufacturing capacity to locally assemble a wide range of upcoming commercial vehicles that meet diverse customer needs in different economic sectors.
Speaking during the launch of the new project, Cabinet Secretary Trade and Industrialization Peter Munya said the Isuzu expansion was in line with the Government’s ambition to grow the country’s manufacturing sector.
“With the right support and incentives, the local vehicle assembly industry has the potential to create over 50,000 jobs in a few years. The industry will also be in a position to contribute substantially to the Country’s GDP,” he added.
He further added that the industry will contribute greatly boost the economy that has now been stagnant for some time.
“We aim to create jobs by expanding the manufacturing sector and I believe by being competitive we can make products that are of world-class standards here in Kenya and I can see Isuzu is heading in that direction,” said the CS while delivering his speech.
Industrialist Chris Kirubi commended Isuzu for leading the way in the motor vehicle industry and providing business opportunities in the sector.
“I am honored to witness the commissioning of the new assembly lines. The motor vehicle industry provides major business opportunities by creating employment and its high time we promote the growth of local vehicle assembly and the automotive industry in Kenya,” said Kirubi.
“We are glad that we have started a new journey and even produce more vehicles in a month. We have the capability to produce up to 600 units by end month and the moment we do 18 in a day,” said Kavashe adding that on the project is committed to international standards which will enable the company to compete across the region.
” This investment will continue to ensure that our vehicles meet global safety and quality standards for our customers while creating growth opportunities in the manufacturing sector in support of the government’s Big 4 economic agenda ,” said the company head.

The new assembly lines includes an Electro Deposition Paint-shop using advanced technology in applying the first coat on the vehicles ensuring longer paint life and finish,  a Dynamic Test Center that will provide finer vehicle inspection such as speed tests and brake tests and the last one being a Water Leak.
