Today, Genesis released images of its latest concept car, the X Convertible. With this latest addition to its EV line, Genesis completes its X concept trilogy. All three concepts share the same architecture and electric powertrain. The convertible joins the X Concept and X Speedium Coupe concepts in the company’s portfolio of electric cars it doesn’t yet build.
“Genesis started life by producing sedans mainly targeting business users. While creating a new, differentiated design DNA, we gradually increased the emotional appeal by applying this DNA to the SUV typology. Now, electric powertrains have given us the perfect scenario in which to enjoy nature, and propelled the brand to create vehicles with even greater emotional resonance,” said Chief Creative Officer, Luc Donckerwolke.
The as-yet-unbuilt electric vehicle market is thriving. With Tesla’s never built Roadster leading the way, EV car makers can now compete with one another in the low-volume and unprofitable high-end sports car market without incurring the cost and financial losses of actually building the cars and delivering them to consumers. Tesla has led the imaginary EV sports car pack now for roughly five years.

The natural choice for Genesis to launch its new EV convertible was California, the state that leads the U.S. in the adoption of electric vehicles that are not yet produced. The state’s temperate climate allows year-round enjoyment of imaging drives in convertibles.
The brand hosted an intimate viewing of the new concept where guests were reportedly delighted with a surprise unveiling of the four-passenger open-roof concept.
Genesis didn’t offer any information on whether the X Convertible Concept would become a production car or how much such a vehicle might cost. However, Genesis did offer this statement: “Genesis is pleased to tune in to what customers seek in their driving experiences and aspirations and will continue to explore new ways to create immersive driving experiences and spaces in which they can connect with their vehicle and surroundings.”
