The Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association announced on Oct. 31 that a total of 13,993 domestic EVs were sold in the domestic car market in September. It is a new record high exceeding the previous high of 13,143 recorded in July. In this market, the sales volume of domestic EVs topped 10,000 for the first time in October last year and reached 12,442, 10,973 and 11,538 in February, April and May this year.
In September, 93,991 domestic cars were sold in the market and the ratio of EVs was 14.9 percent, about 5 percentage points higher than this year’s average.
That month, Hyundai Motor Co, Kia and GM Korea sold 7,946, 5,247 and 800 EVs, respectively. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 topped the list with 2,652, followed by Hyundai Ioniq 5 (2,396) and Kia EV6 (2,281).
In the imported car market, a total of 23,928 cars were sold in September, including 4,024 EVs. The monthly EV sales volume in this market soared after about 500 in January and February and about 1,000 in March to August.
