The grisly accident at Maili Tisa on the Eldoret-Turbo Road has claimed six lives, including a minor.
The Wednesday, November 23, evening accident involved three vehicles; a tractor, an Isuzu Mux belonging to the Kenya Urban Roads Authority and a 14-seater matatu.
It is reported that the driver of the tractor, which had no headlights on, underestimated the speed of the matatu and attempted to join the highway.
The matatu, which was heading to Kitale from Nairobi, in turn, rammed into the tractor. The Mux, which was being driven behind the PSV, subsequently rammed into it.

Uasin Gishu police commander Ayub Gitonga said six people died on the spot including the drivers of the matatu and the Mux.
Those who sustained serious injuries were taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.
The wreckages of the vehicles were towed to the nearby Yamumbi Police Station.
In other news, Statistics by the National Transport and Safety Authority disclosed that more than 4,000 people lost their lives in road accidents in 2022.
According to the report, most road users who lost their lives were pedestrians and motorcyclists.
The report that was released on Thursday, November 17, said 1,413 pedestrians and 1,046 motorcyclists lost their lives.
“By October 2022, pedestrians (1413), motorcyclists (1,046), passengers (693), pillion passengers (363), drivers (356) and pedal cyclists (53) died,” the statistics said.

The deaths were tabulated from 18,474 recorded accidents.
Road usage data from the National Police Service stated that between January and September 26, Kenya recorded 15,924 road accidents.
The data indicated that 3,541 of the accident victims, 22% died, 7,236 were seriously injured, and 5,147 were slightly injured.
Over the same period, 1,269 pedestrians died. More than 900 were motorcyclists, passengers were 634, drivers (324), pillion passengers (324), and pedal cyclists (49).
The data from the NTSA has shown a sharp increase in accidents from 3,947 cases in 2021.
